The 2007 Daytona 500 odds are now posted and it’s time to cash in on some bets. Defending champion Jimmie Johnson leads the pack with 4/1 odds to win the race outright. Johnson has been very successful on this track and his win from last season supports the linesmakers’ decision to list him as the favorite to win. Dale Earnhardt is right with Johnson with 4/1 odds to win. This guy is a perennial contender each year and he will be wanting to win this one for his father Dale Earnhardt this season. Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon are next in line with 5/1 odds to win the Daytona 500. Stewart has been down lately but he is always a dangerous competitor on the racetrack. Jeff Gordon hasn’t been making much noise lately either and he is due to get in the winners circle. But the due factor doesn’t always work in this sport so we will be staying away from Gordon here.

The 2007 Daytona 500 odds on a few long shots are a great place to look to try and find some value in your bets. These long shots can win you some serious cash if they can somehow pull it off and win this prestigious race. Kevin Harvick is a great place to start at 15/1 odds to win the Daytona 500. He has his best year in 2006, improving his average starting position to (13.5), average finish (12.3), and earnings ($6,201,580) over the couse of the season. This guy has the skills to take home the checkered flag and finish in the winners circle Sunday. Denny Hamlin at 25/1 is another long shot that you may want to look into. He also had his best season in 2006 with two wins and 12 top 5 finishes. Matt Kenseth at 15/1 is a great bet as well because he has been a yearly contender for the Nextel Cup championship and he won the trophy in 2003. His average finish last season was 9.8 and he is hungry to get his first win at Daytona this season. Any of these three guys would be a great place to lay your money on the line.

A few guys to stay away from include Carl Edwards at 30/1 and Casey Mears at 30/1 as well. Mears has never won a race in his career and we do not see it happening at the Daytona 500 this season. He only had two top 5 finishes and 8 top tens last season in 36 starts. That’s just not going to get it done in the biggest race of the year. Edwards continues to struggle at the Daytona 500 with a disappointing 39 th place finish last season. In four starts on this track over the last 2 years, Edwards has finished 33rd, 12th, 43rd, and 39th respectively. He has crashed and burned in two out of his four starts as well. This type of race just doesn’t fit his style of racing as he is accident prone and will likely get into another crash this season. Hopefully you now have a better perspective on the Daytona 500 odds and where to put your action.
