2006 MLB Playoff Picks & Predictions
Now we have the 2007 MLB Playoff Predictions posted!
It’s October and that means it’s time for our 2006 MLB playoff predictions. This should be quite the post-season as there are a lot of teams who could be considered contenders. We are going to analyze who the books think are going to make a playoff push by checking out the latest playoff odds from Bodog.
The first series we are going to take a look at is the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees. These two teams went in opposite directions to close out the season and the Tigers slipped so far that they blew a double digit lead in the division and ended up with the Wild Card. Their reward is that they get the Yankees in the first round and the most dangerous lineup in all of baseball. It appears that NY is going to have all their guns back too, with Sheffield and Matsui back at full strength. The only question mark really is Randy Johnson, but with those bats and the unexpected stellar play from Wang they have more than enough even without the Big Unit. We see virtually no chance Detroit beats the Yankees.
In the other American League series it’s the Oakland A’s and the Minnesota Twins. How dangerous would the Twins have been if Liriano could have stayed healthy? Sadly he didn’t and while everyone else is pulling for the Twins, I’m going with the A’s. They have a deep pitching staff lead by Barry Zito, who has been to the playoffs and knows what it takes to win. This is going to be a close series with the Twins playing tough, but Oakland wins this one in four.
We are going to then take the Yankees to pull through and win the pennant. The team is just too deep offensively to not make it to the World Series. The pitching is coming together and the bullpen has a lot of talent. The A’s will be outmatched in the Championship game, even with their stellar set of arms. Yankees win this one in 5 or 6.
Now let’s head to the National League and the first match-up between the Dodgers and Mets. The Mets will be without Pedro Martinez and Orlando Hernandez is having health problems as well. Their pitching staff isn’t very deep to begin with and if they are short on arms there is going to be trouble. Everyone talks about how potent this lineup is but NY really struggled down the stretch after they got out to such a monstrous lead in their division. The Dodgers are a team that has been fighting tooth and nail just to get in the playoffs, and with the Mets having health issues, I’ll go with LA.
The Cardinals and Padres are an interesting match-up just because of how fast St. Louis has fallen. They tried to give the division away to the Astros, but came on in the last few days of the season to lock it up. This team should be able to handle the Padres though because of Carpenter and Pujols. When you have this ace going twice in a five game series you make it very difficult for the other team. We know Izzy is out, but this new closer they have Whitworth, throws gas and will get people out. San Diego made a good run, but I have a feeling they are going to be running into a first round buzz saw, and I’m going with the Cards.
In the Championship game, it’ll be the Dodgers over the Cardinals. St. Louis is going to struggle due to the health problems of Jim Edmunds, and the lack of experience on the staff outside of Carpenter. The Dodgers are a team that if they get hot they appear to be unstoppable, and with Kent, Nomar, Drew, and Furcal this lineup isn’t bad either. Lowe and Maddux have serious playoff experience with Brad Penny being able to mow down batters when he needs to. I’ll take LA.
For the World Series it’s hard to not take the Yankees. This is going to be an interesting Championship with two of the more popular teams in baseball, but the American League has proven themselves to be better all season long, and really any number of these four teams could have beaten everyone in the National League. Ride the Yankees. Of course you can take advantage of our baseball picks each and every day, or pick up one of our complete sports picks packages by clicking on the left hand side of this page.
