Odds to Win the 2006 British Open
June 5, 2008
It’s time to take a look at the latest 2006 British Open odds so you can get your bets placed before July 20th on all of the golf action. The favorite to win the tournament according to Bodog is Tiger Woods at 3.5 to 1. Woods comes into this tournament with two British Open victories but he hasn’t won this major when it’s played somewhere besides St. Andrew’s. The other golfer that is far and away favored above the rest is Phil Mickelson. The book makers evidently have a strong inclination that he is going to bounce back from his struggles at Winged Foot in the U.S. Open because they are listing him currently at 9 to 1.
A couple of other strong favorites this week at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club will be Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, and Padraig Harrington. Els is still trying to bounce back from off-season knee surgery and doesn’t seem to have his game back on track yet. Singh is having a good year by anyone else’s terms, but for him not winning as many golf tournaments and not being the no. 1 player in the world means he’s not happy. Harrington might seem misplaced, but he is a very strong player from Europe who is overdue for a major victory himself.
Reteif Goosen is another solid South African player listed at 20 to 1 odds to win the Claret Jug and you can never count out American Jim Furyk, who seems geared to grind his way through major tournaments and is 30 to 1 this week. Furyk and another guy, Colin Montgomerie listed at 28 to 1, both had a strong chance at Winged Foot but flubbed up the last hole in a less notorious fashion than Mickelson. Luke Donald and David Howell are two guys from across the pond that could have a strong shot at the title with 22 to 1 and 31 to 1 odds respectively.
It’s time to look at some long shots who have a chance at the title and we like Lee Westwood at 70 to 1 and Angel Cabrera at 63 to 1. Remember that Bodog has plenty more options for you to take a look at, so stop by their site and get the latest 2006 British Open odds.
